WHAT IS A LASER?
“Laser” is an acronym for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of
Radiation”.
There are two general classifications of lasers: High Power (hot) and
Low Power (cold). The difference between these two is based on the
optical energy of the specific laser used.
IS THE COLD LASER SAFE?
Low level lasers have been used successfully for over 30 years in a
variety of medical treatments throughout the world. The FDA has ruled
this laser as a "non-significant risk" device.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
We apply the laser to numerous acupuncture points on the head and
arms. This then stimulates the brain to release the body's own natural
opiate-like substances (called endorphins) that stop the physical
cravings caused by nicotine. However, in order for someone to become
a non-smoker, we also address the psychological and behavioral
aspects of the addiction. We offer a complete program that also
includes a detoxification plan and advice for nutrition and exercise, as
well as take home information for ongoing support after the client leaves
our center.
DOES IT HURT?
No, the cold laser technique is completely painless. Unlike traditional
acupuncture, no needles are used and the procedure is totally non-
invasive.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS IT?
Since we are a part of a clinical trial that ultimately reports to the FDA,
we are bound to keep our specific site data confidential. However, this
program has been used in Canada and Europe where success rates are
higher than any other smoking cessation technique reported.
IS THIS GUARANTEED TO WORK?
Because there is a significant psychological component to the nicotine
addiction, it is up to each individual to stop smoking. We offer a
complete program to help clients achieve their goal in the fastest, safest
and most effective way possible. If a person is committed to becoming
smoke-free, then we will do whatever we can to help.
IS THIS A MEDICAL TREATMENT?
Since nicotine addiction affects your body both physically and mentally,
at the Cold Laser Therapy Center we believe that medical professionals
are an important part of your care. Our staff has extensive experience
(about us) in managing the harmful effects of smoking, and we are
prepared to address all aspects of the withdrawal process. At this time,
the FDA does not list this as a medical procedure, however the Florida
Boards of Medicine are currently suggesting that only licensed health
care professionals deliver this type of therapy.
IS THIS "EXPERIMENTAL" TREATMENT?
We are a part of a national "clinical trial" involving numerous centers
throughout the country. We report our results to an independent review
board (IRB) who reviews the data and forwards it on to the FDA. In
order to participate in this exceptional program, you must meet certain
criteria. Please call us to see if you qualify. We will ask you a few simple
questions pertaining to your health to make sure it is completely safe for
you to be a part of this therapeutic trial.
ARE YOU THE ONLY CENTER IN SOUTH FLORIDA DOING THIS?
We are the only center that is operated by an experienced team of
Physician and Nurses skilled in the management of cardiovascular and
pulmonary diseases. We also offer a complete program that deals with
the physical, behavioral, and nutritional aspects of smoking cessation,
along with the detoxification process and self-improvement/relaxation
techniques, to help insure the most successful outcomes possible.
(Some other centers may cost a little less, but you will not be treated by
licensed medical professionals, you will not get a complete program, and
there is no flexibility for ongoing management of tobacco related issues,
if necessary.)
WILL I NEED TO TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS?
No! Our program is all natural and drug-free! We will give you advice
on nutritional supplements to aid in the detoxification of your body during
the nicotine withdrawal phase, but no artificial chemicals are used in our
protocol.
